Founded by Ladda and Roger Abando, Samurai is more than just a restaurant — it is a vision built on passion, family, and purpose. Roger, born and raised in the Philippines, moved to the United States at the age of 14. He began his journey as a humble hibachi chef, mastering his craft through dedication and hard work. Years later, his commitment and perseverance led him to become a successful restaurateur, now proudly owning two family-run establishments in Ohio, including the renowned Daruma Japanese Steakhouse, operating since 2014.
During a visit to his hometown in Pangasinan, Roger saw firsthand the challenges faced by his family and community — limited opportunities, unstable jobs, and wages far below what people deserved. Moved by this, he made it his mission to create meaningful employment and share his knowledge of the restaurant industry.
When he discovered Boracay, its pristine beaches, warm community, and vibrant energy reignited his dream. With the help of local talent and family, he envisioned Samurai Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi as a place where world-class cuisine meets local pride — blending luxury with heart.
